This is a follow up from the defensive shotgun class.

Shotguns are not drop safe. We want the shotgun to be safe, so it doesn’t discharge if someone knocks it over or puts pressure on the trigger, but we need to be able to deploy the gun quickly in a true emergency.

Safety should be engaged when administratively handling the gun.

Verify the gun is empty

Check the chamber

Check the lifter

Check the tube

Load the tube

Crack the bolt back to re-check the chamber

Point the gun in a safe direction, disengage the safety and press the trigger There should now be a round on the lifter
